Located just 45 minutes drive from the quaint town of Sandakan; Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, is truly an adorable place. And you would soon know why! 🙈🙉🙊
On our way back from the Kinabatangan River, my colleagues and I decided to visit our friends there.
This is a privately owned estate, turned tourist attraction because of the HEAPS of proboscis monkeys living around the area! And the best part? They're wild and free.
LOOK! SO CUTE!!
^Even saw hornbills!
My absolute preference!
There are two main platforms for you to choose from. Both of these platforms allow you to roam freely around the area and interact with the monkeys. But please remember, they are - at the end of the day wild who have been living in the jungle. Safety, is always first. Do not irritate or provoke them. The wardens will be advising the same to you as well. But because they have been in contact with humans for so many years, most of them are indeed tamed.
If timing is of concern, you can follow the schedules below.
I think Platform B (where I was) is a lot more spacious, and the silver leaf monkeys usually hang out here more often!! 💖💖 My heart skips a beat seeing them in one family, interacting with each other. It's absolutely CUTE!!!!!
^Sneaky guy.
Towards the end of the exit, we saw a couple of proboscis playing around by themselves. Things like these make my heart flutter 💕
There is a cafe nearby that is fitting for evening drinks or teas, between the forests and swamps. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to enjoy an evening at the cafe because we were rushing to go back 😩 I know I would have loved the environment.
The next time you're thinking of going anywhere, best be at your own hometown Malaysia, and you can start with Sandakan 😁 I think your kids or your family can learn many things from the jungle!
