Dinner at Joloko, Kuala Lumpur

Sway and I were talking about celebrating our birthdays together while I'm there (Libras rejoiceeee!), and naturally the first thing we did was, Google. Quite done with late nights, we just wanted to chill and eat. Joloko was one of the few restaurants that came up on the search (I forgot what I typed), and without sharing to Sway, days later Sway shared with me via Insta, on Joloko again.

Either their digital marketing efforts worked hauntingly well, or it was basically just a sign for us.

So yes, you can say we randomly picked a place and rallied the gang at least a month before to meet up here. I was thinking of part dinner part celebration, since we barely catch up and we're earning now!!

Turns out, it was a celebration of all sorts! New jobs, terrible dates, you know, the many things to celebrate as a modern woman these days. It turned out to be a little soiree. So. Much. Fun.

Before even anything, I publicly apologized to everyone for choosing a place right smack in the city center (apparently around Chow Kit road), on a Thursday evening. And. It. Was. Raining. By God's miracle, everyone came on time and not wet. It stopped just before the dinner.

I laughed so much like I haven't with these gang in soooooo long.

I terribly, terribly, love them.

All photos are from Kerry!

Joloko itself was a tropical fun, with big airy, colourful courtyard in the middle with lots of greens. Luckily we were the earliest, so Sway asked to sit right in front of the open kitchen and to our delight, some of the chefs were quite easy on the eyes! πŸ˜‹The open kitchen with the chefs cooking live in action really upped the ambiance. There were fun Caribbean music on the background, and I think there were other people laughing, but really all I could hear was myself laughing out loud 😝

And did I say Thursday night?

The place was full to the brim! By 8.30pm there were soars of laughters, clinking of glasses (we probably did more than 5) and the light dimmed a little.

We heard the cocktails were the highlight of Joloko, with special tequilas from Mexico and its tantric way of drinking it from the coconut shell. In fact, the cocktails cost just as much as the dishes.

Were the cocktails worth it?

I think so. There was a book of concoctions to choose from. I think the ladies had fun picking up the cocktails judging from the concoctions and names. We also let the servers recommend us - what's strong, what's sweet, what's light.

We shared the food together and I thought we ordered a lot, turns out, we ordered just nice for six hungry woman! Rice, pork, chicken, herbed brinjal 😊

Happy birthday in advance my love Swee Wei. You were there throughout the many strange but very important moments in my life. Growing up with you brought so much joy in my life.

And most importantly, you are my sweet thug at heart. Could totally relate to you in all levels.

Enjoy your new decade!

Love,
Jacqueline Rowena @ Jacqkie.

Pulau Sapi @ Tunku Abdul Rahman Parks

Before I proceed to my write up on Pulau Sapi, let me do the duty to carefully explain to you why there are so many people talking about so many islands at the mention of the word, Sabah. Reason why I'm doing so is because whenever people visit KK City, they have very limited time in exploring most of the natural gorgeous attractions, and sometimes ended up just moving around KK City. And when one does that, people would usually end up asking, why are there so many mentions of islands when we get to experience none?  As you can see from the previous Matthew Paul map below; Sabah is situated close to top north of the Borneo Island. That said, it's a privilege to say that tons of islands are under the local towns and cities surrounding the shores of this particular part of Borneo island. From Sipitang (look out from South left), imagine yourself  "walking" from the Sipitang's shore / beach walk up slowly to Menumbuk, Kuala Penyu, Pulau Tiga, Kota Kinabalu, Tun

Pulau Mantanani // Mantanani Island

I started off my 10 day break with a day trip to Mantanani. I wanted to visit Mantanani for THE LONGEST TIME, but couldn’t get around doing so all these while, either I haven’t saved up enough or basically, just haven’t got the weekends to spare it with.   Some folks call it the mermaid island because of the dugong sightings underwater – which is seriously magical. Some folks even say you could catch a glimpse of dolphins. They’ve had photos with it, but I personally have never seen them before.  Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to share with you why this trip was important.    If you see the map above, I’ve yellow squared Mantanani Island in comparison to the journey from Kota Kinabalu. If you’re not a map kind of person, that is --- quite far. Not Sipadan (Tawau, Sandakan, Lahad Datu kind of far) but far enough to be a put off to some locals at times. Previously, you’d have to drive up north for approximately 1.5 hours, or take a bus to Kota Belud, to
